Islamic Amnesiacs
Certain modern Islamists seem to have forgotten the existential facts of life in their desperate search for an ideal form of justice that simply cannot belong to this Earth. They have forgotten the numinous ecstasies of Sufi poetry; they have forgotten the negative analyses as well as the cynical wit of the philosophers. They appear to have forgotten (in their unacknowledged agnosticism), that since there is only One True God, there is only One Great Religion – already found in innumerable spiritualities throughout human history and across the entire globe. Maybe, as Spiritualists, we need to remind them not to place their faith in this sphere, but put it firmly in the Greater World beyond.

Sufism and Islam - hard to believe they share a past.
Islam - not in touch with with the meta-religion behind them all. Instead, it is a warrior's code for worldy conquest based on a user's wilful misinterpretation of Judaism and Christianity with the addition of poisonous doses of harsh desert cruelty.
All the abrogated suras represent everything that was humane and kindly. All that is left is a basinful of blood to wash a believer's hands in before he goes off to war for anti-life.
It is said that Allah will never let the Kabbah and the little (the very little) rock be destroyed. Well, we'll have to see about that won't we.
The clean fire of ten million atom bombs on Mecca. What an ecstatic vision! All that glowing glass - so pretty.
If the projected figures for muslim population growth in Europe are correct, there will eventually be a muslim majority. This will make them the political masters and they will naturally enact legislation that is to their taste.
We can then say goodbye to our liberal culture and get used to veiled uneducated women, no gay people (all dead), paying the jeziyah tax if we don't convert to Islam, seeing the churches pulled down, keeping silent if we are atheists (getting our heads chopped off if we don't), keeping silent if we are pagans (getting our heads chopped off if we don’t). In countless other ways, everything will change - our own culture that has changed and adapted and accommodated newness over centuries slowly, will have another culture imposed on it.
This will be our own faults, or rather the faults of our governments and politicians who do have the power to do something about this now but don't because they are scared of being called racists and anti-islamic.
I am white and English but my best friends are (non-islamic) Indian. It is not a matter of race, but it is a matter of religion. As a person brought up to appreciate and revere our western, liberal civilsation, I feel great fear and resentment that very soon it might have gone forever and been replaced by a culture derived from a religion that despises and seeks to end our liberal traditions.
We are on the brink of major change and our systems and policies are liberal to the point where they will end up being the very things that ensure their own destruction. Sometimes it is appropriate for a liberal nation to act decisively and even non-liberally to defend its liberal heritage. If we are challenged by despotism, the only answer is to fight back and win. Our politicians are behaving like Neville Chamberlain did in his dealings with nazism. His piece of paper fluttered in the wind as he uttered those infamous words, "Peace in Our Time". A short time later, we were at war with a foe that threatened our very existence.
The politicians who are failing to tackle this issue now are leaving a legacy for the near future that their successors won't be able to sort out. This is because no matter what they do to try and bring everyone together, muslim and non-muslim, the political power of Islam will suppress opposition. The non-muslim population will see this coming and there is likely to be a hardening of attitudes and the non-muslim population will begin to find its own solutions. These solutions are likely to be violent ones against the muslim population and against Europe's politicians where they will be fuelled by resentment and revenge. Revolt and all out war is a possibility I am very much afraid. What hope then for my very dear, non-muslim Indian friends and people like them? The frightened mob will see brown faces and attack them.
Without change, this will be our future.
